*** It takes about 3 hours but you don’t need to take all at once, you can break down into a number of sessions ***

When you take the assessment you will want to be at your best, so please don’t attempt it if you are tired, but you could do the registration part beforehand. It can be useful to register early just in case there is a problem in connecting. This doesn’t happen very often but if it coincided with me being away for a weekend I’d be unable to help although you could email technical support: susan@highlandsco.com

You will be asked to enter a registration key – this will be emailed on to you within a few hours during regular business hours, there may be delays at weekends.

When people have a problem with registration it is usually for one or all of the following reasons:

* When you list your birth remember it is a US company so month comes before day, i.e. 9/11 not September 9th.
* There is a drop down menu where you choose the State, AK etc, please don’t leave it blank but choose N/A.
* When you enter the phone number it needs to be in US format – if you can’t get it to accept yours, use 866 528 3069.

Which report?

There are different versions of report available
* Student, choose this if you are still in education, you get a more detailed section on how to improve learning.
* Adult, chosen by the majority of people.
* Leadership, choose if this assessment is being done for professional development rather than careers guidance. I’d recommend you choose the Adult version first, you can always buy this later if required.
* Lawyer, self explanatory.

Technical Support

If you experience any technical problems as you complete the highlands assessment please contact the technical support contact Susan Shipwash. You can email or phone. Don’t forget that as she is based in the US there is a 5 hour time difference to GMT so don’t call too early.

Many of us have access to low cost providers so we can call America for 1 pence per minute. You can get easy access to the US via www.telediscount.co.uk. you firstly call this number – 0844 86 186 86 and then the US number adding 001 for the US code.

If requested I will contact Susan on your behalf but you will need to provide full details in an email for me to forward.

Just recently a couple of clients have “cheated” during the test – taking notes so they can refer to them, especially in the memory tests. As we discussed the results they did tell me what they had done, and realised their results were not a true reflection of their abilities; they were just cheating themselves. So I recommend you to do your best – that’s what we want to work with, and high and low scores don’t matter it’s what is best for specific jobs.

As you work through the test the instructions are spoken as well as appearing on the screen, you can turn the volume low/off, you only need it for the 3 sound work samples.

Sometimes, at a feedback session clients will tell me that there was a problem – they misunderstood the instructions, the system had a blip and a page was missed or perhaps they were interrupted by a family member. If you experience any problems it is best to get this addressed right away. That way we know that your results are accurate. SO PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS RIGHT AWAY.

AS YOU LOOK AT YOUR PROFILE, PLEASE REMEMBER:

There are no good or bad scores. This test is not about high and low scores being good or bad. Just as football requires high scores and golf requires low scores, so to do some jobs require high scores and some jobs require low scores. It all depends on what type of work you are doing as to whether a high or a low score is best.

A high score in a particular ability, coupled with a job that does not require the use of that ability will lead to frustration. A low score in a particular ability, coupled with a job that does not require the constant use of that ability will lead to frustration.

There is no real advantage to having a high score in a particular ability unless the job requires it.

Lower percentiles in a particular test can be as positive as a high percentile. E.g. idea productivity measures volume of ideas, not how good they are. A lower percentile score in that test generally means a better ability to focus on a job, whilst a high score is an advantage in jobs that require brainstorming or in sales.

Most jobs only require one or two driving abilities, some jobs require none. For example, a manager requires none of the driving abilities since she is the one who oversees, manages and delegates work to those who do possess the driving abilities that are required for job production.

A low score does not mean that you cannot perform a particular task. It means you cannot do that task fast.

You may feel disappointed with one or more of the results, perhaps your skill or high level of motivation compensates for your natural ability. Our discussion will address this type of issue and ensure you really understand how to get the best out of your results.
